Business [Un]Usual: Profit from Purpose

Monday October 2 - Tuesday October 3 2017 Beanfield Centre Toronto, Ontario

The world is facing political, social, environmental and technological transformations that will have profound implications for businesses operating in Canada. As such, our bi-annual Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability summit has taken somewhat of a different direction this year. In October 2017, we’ll be bringing you Business [Un]Usual: Profit from Purpose to help business leaders navigate these changes, build resilience and capitalize from the opportunities these transformations may bring.

Conference Overview

The world is changing fast. Business is facing new demands from rapidly evolving technologies, while social, environmental and political issues are affecting bottom-lines.

Business has a choice.

You can choose to be at the mercy of these new forces, always reacting to defend your bottom line. Or you can embrace these changes, seeing them as opportunities to deliver healthy, inclusive growth with long-term viability.

Thriving in today’s business world means having clarity of purpose, beyond profit. Businesses with this clarity know that profit is an outcome of the value they create. That’s why they focus beyond profit.

What does your business stand for? To authentically engage, your employees, customers and your community must believe in your purpose. Driving stakeholder loyalty and advocacy is vital to standing out from the crowd and succeeding in these changing times.

Hear from leaders who have purposefully and successfully embraced these changes.

Join us to learn about the forces driving change over the next few years. Look at Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability issues through a new lens. Have meaningful discussions with people in your industry about the issues and opportunities, and observe a real-life rapid innovation process, so you know how to take action.

Conference topics include:

  • the critical forces impacting Canadian business over the next three years, including data, transparency, increasing politicization in business, climate change, resource-use innovation and more
  • how different stakeholders, from investors to consumers, view these forces, and business responses
  • how to develop proactive, successful responses to outside changes
  • how to persuade others in the business to follow
  • the personal journey of a business changemaker to find business purpose
  • industry specific working sessions exploring the implications of the critical forces for business

The Venue

The Beanfield Centre in Toronto is the perfect embodiment of the conference theme. Their adoption of hi-spec environment technologies, from rainwater harvesting, healthy air conditioning through to a 30-story wind turbine, mean they are the world’s only LEED Silver certified historical venue. All their delicious food is made from locally sourced, organic produce. All of this is important, because leading change means first living the change you want to lead.
