2016 Event

Heading into 2016, the BC economy continues to be a bright spot on the Canadian landscape. Amidst a shaky Canadian economy, weak loonie and low oil prices—the diversified and stable BC economy continues to thrive.

The Conference Board of Canada’s Western Business Outlook series arrives in its inaugural session in Nanaimo, where our renowned economic forecasting team provided attendees the opportunity to take a deep dive into the numbers that continue to drive the B.C. economy for the year ahead.

This session answered the following quesions:

  • Where is the B.C. resource sector heading?
  • What is underpinning the B.C. success story?
  • Will LNG finally get started and what impact will it have in the short term?
  • What are the impacts of tectonic shifts in the Asia-Pacific economy and the slowdown in the Chinese economy on British Columbia and Vancouver Island?
  • Is the strength in the B.C. economy sustainable?
