SIRP event lineupThe 2012 CIBC Scholar In Residence Lecture was held on May 23 at the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa. CIBC Scholar-in-Residence Chair, André Picard, discussed the results of his in-depth research into Canada’s current health care system. The 10-year CIBC Scholar-in-Residence Program brings renowned scholars to The Conference Board of Canada to examine issues of national importance related to improving Canada’s economic and social prosperity.

André Picard is one of Canada’s top public policy writers and a distinguished public health reporter at The Globe and Mail. He is the author of two best-selling books on health care, and the recipient of the Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism, the Canadian Policy Research Award, and the Atkinson Fellowship for Public Policy Research. In 2002, he received the Centennial Prize of the Pan American Health Organization as the top public health reporter in the Americas. In 2005, he was named Canada’s first Public Health Hero by the Canadian Public Health Association, and in 2007 he was honoured as a Champion of Mental Health.
