Conference Overview
“A recent study commissioned by the OECD concludes that while the focus of performance management in today’s public sector is rightly on delivering results, particularly service quality, governments in the 80 or so democratic regimes around the world do not appear to be meeting citizen expectations.” Gregory Richards and Swee Goh, Performance Management.
High-Performance Public Service is challenged today by a number of new, complex and inter-related elements unique to the public service and its performance driven nature. What are the current practices and barriers, and why is performance management so difficult to implement?
The Conference Board in partnership with Interis Consulting is pleased to announce the Public Sector Executive Weekend Conference at the Fairmont Le Château Montebello in Québec, April 15, through April 17, 2010. This invitation only event is limited to 35 senior public sector executives, creating an ideal forum for discussion and collaboration on the challenges facing a High-Performing Public Service.
The format of this event is unique. It is modeled after the Conference Board’s Canadian Conference, hosted annually for over fifty years. Each participant will be asked to make an eight minute presentation, sharing their perspective, challenges or vision of a high-performance public service. Discussion is then given to the floor for questions, comments and other viewpoints. This format encourages participation and collaboration among the participants and inspires interaction and the free exchange of imaginative new ideas.
Contribute your thinking on the challenges facing a High-Performing Public Service.
Discussion topics are expected to examine a number of key characteristics of a High-Performing Public Service such as: the encouragement and ability to innovate, effective structure to manage human resources, accountability and a performance-oriented organizational culture, strategic clarity, effective risk management, demonstrable non-partisanship, respect and support of Parliament and the public in-order to bring a clear path to high performance in the public sector for the future.
