Today in Canada there are more people aged 65 and over than there are 14 years and younger. This statistic, combined with an aging workforce, low-recruitment rates, high incidence of burnout and injury, and funding challenges, leaves Canada’s seniors care sector facing a serious health human resource crisis.

Seniors today are living at home longer, arriving at long-term care homes later, and with more complex health issues than ever before. However, with key investments to ensure retention among health care professionals, as well as a robust recruiting process will ensure that Canada is able to secure the next generation of continuing care workers.

Webinar Highlights

In this live webinar, Daniel Fontaine and Lara Croll will address the national health human resource crisis, touching on how restrictive immigration policies, low awareness of job opportunities, and increased housing values are also adding to the worker shortage in the publicly funded seniors care sector. They will also discuss:

  • Key elements required for developing a robust health human resource strategy for the continuing care sector;
  • The urgent need for all stakeholders, including government, employers, labour, and post-secondary institutions to work collaboratively towards a solution; and
  • How Canada can meet the projected growth over the next decade, when the seniors care sector is expected to be the fastest growing sector in our economy.
