Healthy Canada: Future Care for Canadian Seniors

2016 Event

Canada is grappling with the implications of the demographic bulge of aging baby boomers, leaving many wondering how concerned we should be about the future demands on health care and costs. The Conference Board's report Future Care for Canadian Seniors: A Status Quo Forecast suggests that by 2026, over 2.4 million Canadians age 65+ will require paid and unpaid continuing care supports—up 71 per cent from 2011, and by 2046 this number will reach nearly 3.3 million.

Keeping these pressure points in mind, delegates and thought leaders gathered for a one day conference to discuss the nature and size of these implications and what it means for those who fund and deliver care.

Fresh thinking about housing and care models, and healthy active living programs to prevent, manage and treat the chronic conditions in the population were the forefront of the discussion. Opportunities for innovation and sustainable practices to meet the future continuing care needs were also addressed.
