Economic Outlook

Pedro Antunes, Exectuive Director, Economic Outlook and Analysis, and Deputy Chief Economist, will provide highlights from the Conference Board's most recent Canadian forecast, and the U.S and global outlooks. Pedro will give an overview of the macro-economic and geopolitical trends that are buffeting the global economy, the uncertainty that continues to be sown by the US Administration and trade issues, as well as the outlook for the national and provincial economies. Pedro will also drill down in what is driving the Winnipeg metropolitan economy including housing, manufacturing and the commodities sector that is so important to the Manitoba economy.

Conference Board Deputy Chief Economist, Pedro Antunes, will be joined by two senior business leaders from Winnipeg to discuss broadly the tax changes and fiscal policy proposed by the Federal Minister of Finance and how they will impact SMEs, privately held corporations and address the bigger picture of reviewing Canada and Manitoba's tax system.

Keynote Presentation

In this closing keynote session, Finance Minister Cameron Friesen will address the state of the province’s finances, the actions the Manitoba Government is taking to return to balance, and the initiatives underway to grow the economy, sustain health care, and protect frontline services. As preparations are underway for the government's third budget in 2018, the Minister will also address the challenges and opportunities facing Manitoba’s businesses and the Manitoba economy.
