The monthly Metropolitan Housing Starts publication provides the recent trends in housing starts for 28 metropolitan areas and expectations for starts over both the short and long term.
- Five CMAs have positive expectations for both the short and long terms—two more than last month.
- There are 12 CMAs, including Toronto, with both short- and long-term negative expectations.
- The CMAs with the biggest year-over-year declines in housing starts in May were Thunder Bay, Abbotsford–Mission, Moncton, Regina, and Winnipeg.
- Oshawa had the biggest year-over-year increase in housing starts last month.
