The composite leading index of the Canadian economy sums up the performance of 10 components that track the short-term course of the economy.

Document Highlights

The Conference Board of Canada’s Composite Leading Index rose 1.2 points in August. Now sitting at 113.6 (2010 = 100), the index is at its highest level since November 2007. The index’s strength is not surprising, given the recent strength of Canada’s economy. However, the Conference Board expects economic growth to slow from the impressive first half of the year, which could weigh down the Composite Leading Index in the months to come.
