Dr. Jean-Charles Le Vallée is Associate Director for Food Horizons Canada with The Conference Board of Canada where he leads food, agriculture and beverage research. Since 2011, Jean-Charles has published a dozen reports ranging from Canada's international and provincial food performance; to global food safety rankings; private and public food standards; food waste; produce consumption and checkoff programs; food economics; food sustainability; food innovation; diets, health and nutrition; commercial fisheries and aquaculture industries; agricultural labour market gaps; SME agri-food trade in Colombia, Senegal and Vietnam; and more. Jean-Charles also chairs the annual Canadian Food & Drink Summits, and is a regular speaker on current food issues across Canada, including on BNN.
Prior to joining the Board, Jean-Charles was a World Bank food economist. He also coordinated Canada's Food Security Bureau at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and has extensive teaching, research and field experience in Africa, Asia and Latin America with the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the World Food Prize, the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and at numerous universities such as Cornell, Laval, Michigan State, Ottawa, and Ryerson. Jean-Charles is the author of a book on food system resilience and has published numerous journal articles, book chapters, and policy briefs on food issues.
